His Holiness 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje is going to give teachings and empowerments in New Dehli

24.12.2013

From the 17th till 22nd March in KIBI (Karmapa International Buddhist Institute –New Dehli, India) His Holiness 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje will give teachings about the Bodhisattva’s way of life – a human path to reach Enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

The term “Bodhisattva” consists of 2 words: “bodhi” and “sattva” that literally means “a being with an awakened mind”. Such a person has bodhicitta – a strong wish to come out of the cycle of reincarnation – Samsara, and wants to help other beings to stop suffering. The greatest example of a Bodhisattva in our time is Thaye Dorje.

The heart of the teachings is “Bodhicaryavatara” (the Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life) – an especially important Mahayana text written by Shantideva. He describes the Buddhist way and gives detailed instructions for the Way of the Bodhisattva. This text is highly valued and being discussed in all Buddhist traditions. His Holiness will also tell of some historical examples of how the Bodhisattvas of the past used to live. Everyone, not only Buddhists, will find described methods and teachings useful: they are based upon basic human values, describe positive approach in life and motivation and are based upon love and compassion to all living beings.

During this six-day program Gyalwa Karmapa will give teachings about “the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life” written by Shantideva and two empowerments: Manjusri (Buddha of wisdom) and Amitayus (Buddha of unlimited life).
